PAS 5012 Lifelong Learning, Integrity in Practice, Outreach & Service, Nurturing Communities I
This LION I course is the 1st of 6 courses designed to integrate the didactic learning experience with succinct clinical practice exposures and the development of the required Master’s project (thesis or paper for publication). These exposures will align physician assistant (PA) students with the performance of research, clinical exposures, interprofessional education during their didactic curriculum that are then integrated (vertically, horizontally, and spirally) with the clinical curriculum beginning in LION IV. During these experiences students will develop a research project, participate in-patient, out-patient, and community healthcare learning opportunities with PA faculty, preceptors, varied healthcare providers, and patients for preparation into clinical practice. Integration of medical knowledge, patient care, interpersonal/communication skills, and professionalism essential for practice is emphasized. In addition, the course promulgates lifelong learning, integrity in practice, outreach & service, and nurturing of communities to align with the institutional mission of academic excellence with compassion and respect for each person. During LION I students review inferential statistics, develop a research question, create a title page, and abstract, in addition to obtaining IHI or CITI certification.
Prerequisite
Admission to the Physician Assistant Program and Successful Completion of the First Semester.
