NUR 584 Foundations of Nursing Informatics

In this course, a foundational understanding ofnursing informatics as an advanced nursingspecialty will be discussed, including the historyand evolution of nursing informatics, theory, andthe scope and standards. Learners will facilitateseminar discussions of foundational andcontemporary legal, regulatory, social, andethical issues in the field of informatics. Following critical appraisal of the literature,learners will create an evidence-basedpresentation proposal focused on staff developmentrelated to informatics continuing education andcompetency development. As a collaborative teammember, learners will reflect and peer review teamperformance related to the effectiveness ofcommunication strategies, team building andaccountability, and conflict management andresolution. Finally, the learner will reflect onthe art of caring in technology-ladenenvironments, and envision the future of nursinginformatics.
