NUR 571 Psychiatric Assessment, Diagnostics and

This course provides the psychiatric mental healthnurse practitioner the foundations for mentalhealth assessment of patients across the lifespan.Emphasis is on development of a holistic andculturally sensitive comprehensive evidence-basedassessment process; the DSM 5 criteria provideguidance for the diagnostic process along withother authoritative resources. The mental statusexam, psycho-social history-taking, laboratorydata, genetic diagnostics, and screening tools areused to identify mental health problems. Basicpsychopharmacology is introduced.
