This course provides the psychiatric mentalhealth nurse practitioner the foundations formental health assessment of patients across thelifespan. Emphasis is on development of aholistic and culturally sensitive comprehensiveevidence-based assessment process; the DSM 5criteria provideguidance for the diagnostic process along withother authoritative resources. The mental statusexam, psycho-social history-taking, laboratorydata, genetic diagnostics, and screening toolsare used to identify mental health problems.
