LAW-8078 Law Policy and Advocacy Lab
The Law, Policy, and Advocacy Lab is an experiential law lab course. This course will examine how policy is conceptualized, how it is narrated successfully and passed. We will examine local case studies of successful grassroots campaigns for change. This course should be of great interest to students who are interested in systemic change and working with movements of any political bent. Students will acquire legislative drafting skills and negotiating skills. Students will be required to engage directly with elected officials, advocacy organizations, law clinics, and other stakeholders.Students need to be self-motivated and ready to engage in independent work. You will complete a sample policy draft ready for filing and a research policy paper that explains the issues, the history, the strategy, opposition and coalition.
