LAW-8079 Cybersecurity Law and Policy

This course explores the rapidly-evolving cybersecurity legal ecosystem, from ransomware gangs to related laws and policies. Students will learn in depth about cybercrime, the types of cyber attacks, nation state actors, and state, federal, and international law enforcement efforts to thwart those attacks. The data breach regulatory landscape as well as key cases from courts interpreting these laws will be discussed. Over the course of the semester, students will learn best practices for legal professionals in responding to cybersecurity attacks and helping clients navigate a data breach including forensic investigation, data mining, and crisis communications . Students will learn about cybersecurity incident response plans and will participate in a real-time simulation of an active cyberattack at the IBM X-Force Cyber Range in Cambridge.
