LAW-8040 Law and Psychology Workshop

The Law and Psychology Workshop is a 3-credit, one-semester course in which students apply psychological understandings to how we can enhance our laws, legal systems and institutions, and legal careers. It introduces relevant aspects of psychology (especially trauma-informed perspectives) and applies the lens of therapeutic jurisprudence, a field of theory and practice that favors psychologically healthy outcomes in the design and application of law and policy. The core course material is pertinent to virtually any aspect of legal practice. No previous background in psychology is necessary. Graded assessments include a final project, a series of journal entries, and contributions to class discussion. [Note: Students who have taken the Law and Psychology Lab – the predecessor to this course -- are not eligible to enroll.]
