NUR 336 Mental Health and Pharmacology Theory

Theories and concepts related to human behaviorand promotion, maintenance, and restoration ofmental health of individuals and families arepresented within the framework of the nursingprocess. Critical thinking, communication,self-awareness and therapeutic use of self areemphasized and applied as students explore issuesin psychiatric/mental health nursing andpsychopharmacotherapeutic therapies. Legal andethical dilemmas are addressed, especially inrelation to acute psychopathology. Self-awareness and therapeutic communication arepromoted through clinical assignments and facultyguidance. Importance is placed on theprofessional nursing role, and use of the nursingprocess in the care of clients with alterationsin mental health in hospital and communitysettings.
