EDU 5306 Assistive and Adaptive Technology for Students with Special Needs

This course will examine assistive and adaptive types of technologies for the purpose of integrating instructional technology into the inclusive K-12 classrooms. Teachers will evaluate web tools and applications online and on devices such as smart phones, ipads and communication and listening devices to promote effective educational technology teaching. This course considers how assistive and adaptive technologies has changed the way we communicate and interact with students with special needs. This course will also evaluate different devices for their implications in education. The course will provide teachers a view of how different learning strategies can assist students with special needs and opportunities for teachers to create learning environments and activities utilizing supports and resources for assistive and adaptive learning devices. This course is offered for Professional Development. Advance Education Division Program approval needed to satisfy Education Technology Program degree requirements.
