An introduction to the foundational concepts of sustainability and the intersection of society, environment, and economics, including population growth, markets, institutions, ethics, and political economy. ENV 285 Earth Environment and Sustainability for Elementary Teachers

Human interactions with the Earth environment, tailored to students pursuing degrees in B-6 Education. Topics aligned with Michigan content standards. Integration of pedagogy and content. ENV 300 Environmental Justice: Race, Gender, Poverty

An examination of how environmental issues interact with inequalities in society including race, gender, and poverty within the United States and internationally. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing. ENV 310 Environmental Management and Regulations

Review of regulatory requirements and application of scientific studies to managing environmental risk. Case studies of risk management by the targeted community and regulatory agencies. Prerequisite: One of: ENV 101, ENS 101QR.

ENV 320 Environmental Assessment and Practice

This course introduces the purpose and methodology of environmental impact assessment as a tool for environmental management and decision- making. Emphasis on National Environmental Policy Act. Prerequisite: ENV 310.

ENV 350 Foundations of Environmental Thought

Key perceptions, values, and theories that provide blueprints for how we as humans use, abuse, and conserve our environment. Prerequisite: ENS 101QR or ENV 101 or GEO 120QR.

ENV 351WI Water as Life, Death, and Power

Problems of water access, water-borne pathogens, water treatment, and power relationships in global cultures from anthropology, biology, and chemistry perspectives. Identical to ANT 350WI, BIO 350WI, and CHM 350WI. Credit may not be earned in more than one of these courses. May not be applied to any Biology major or the Biology minor. May not be applied to Chemistry or Biochemistry major or minor. Writing Intensive. Prerequisites: Completion of 56 hours.
