Related Minnesota State Board Procedure:   None

Purpose: The performance evaluation process provides a means for discussing, planning, and reviewing the performance of each employee. Performance evaluations influence merit-based increases, achievement awards, eligibility for flexible work arrangements, and participation in many activities not already enumerated in the employee’s position description.  It is critical, therefore, that supervisors provide timely and objective feedback.

Part 1:   This policy does not extend to faculty performance evaluations, which are covered by 4.13 Faculty Evaluation Policy.

Part 2:  Timing

Subpart A: Human Resources shall maintain guidelines for the timing of employee review processes, which will include, at a minimum, a new position appraisal within three (3) months of hire and an annual appraisal thereafter.

Subpart B: The college recognizes that many, if not all, collective bargaining agreements and state compensation plans have minimum timing requirements for performance evaluations. Guidelines maintained by Human Resources shall be consistent with these agreements and plans.

Part 3: Human Resources shall establish the format and guidelines for evaluations and completed evaluations will be retained in the employee’s personnel file.
