PMMD 8129 Health Systems Science Year 1
The Health System Science module provides the foundation of health systems, health care delivery, insurance, population and public health policy, ethics, social and cultural context of medicine and podiatric medicine. Students are introduced to the critical skills including professionalism, research and respect for cultural norms and values. Learning activities occur in large and small groups as well as self-directed learning which include team-based learning and case-based analysis and discussion. Proposed assessments include discrete point formative and summative activities and exams, simulations, oral and written assignment, and self-assessment. The Health Systems Science module explores the history, law, ethics, clinical, social, and cultural contexts of medicine as well as human behavior. The course focuses on global issues including the health care system and local border health issues.
