PMMD 8517 Musculoskeletal, Dermatology and Radiology
This 14-week module consists of a comprehensive integrated study of the Musculoskeletal, Integumentary and Radiology Systems. Clinical applications relevant in Orthopedics, Podiatric Medicine, Dermatology and Radiology will be introduced. The module will be delivered via didactic learning activities, Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and laboratory experiences in both large and small group interactive learning sessions. This module will provide students the opportunity to acquire a strong knowledge of the musculoskeletal and dermatologic systems. Students will read conventional X-rays, CT, US, and MRI scans to help reinforce their knowledge of normal and abnormal structures related to disease processes and clinical applications. This module will emphasize the fundamental principles of the basic medical sciences including gross anatomy, histology, embryology, physiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, nutrition, pathology, rheumatology, metabolic disorder, congenital disease, oncology, pharmacology, and genetics. Moreover, students will acquire clinical and communication skills, apply ethical and evidence-based principles, and demonstrate professionalism and reflective behaviors of a podiatric physician. Sub sections of pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine will be introduced, and a four-week podiatric radiology section will analyze common pedal pathology that focus on arthridities, bone metabolic conditions, benign/malignant osseous tumors, bone infection, bone healing, and other bone alterations from systemic disease.
