PMMD 8521 Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine

The PMMD 8521 module is a continuation of PMSB 8301, 8303, 8501 and 8503. This basic anesthesia course introduces the principles, techniques, and practices of anesthesia. Students will learn about the essential components of anesthesia delivery, including pre-operative assessment, drug administration, airway management, and post-operative care. The course covers the pharmacology of common anesthetic agents, pain management strategies, and monitoring methods. Students will explore complications and emergencies in anesthesia practice, as well, as anesthetic implications for common diseases and disorders. By the end of the course, students should have a solid understanding of anesthesia fundamentals and be prepared to advance to more specialized topics in the field if required. This course is designed for medical students, nursing students, and other healthcare professionals seeking a foundational knowledge of anesthesia practice.
