PMMD 8511 Neurology
The Mind Brain and Behavior module is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary course providing an integrated approach to the study of the central and peripheral nervous systems for a podiatric medical student. In this module students will be exposed to the normal anatomy, development, physiology, and molecular and cellular mechanisms required for health and homeostasis of the nervous system. Neurological and psychiatric disorders will be introduced but the focus of the module will revolve around peripheral neuropathy and neuromuscular conditions that will influence gait and lower extremity pathology. During the study students are expected to apply knowledge on basic science including neuroanatomy neurophysiology neuropharmacology neuropathology and behavioral science to provide better understanding of neurological and psychiatric disorders that may affect a podiatric patient. Pharmacological and environmental interventions will be introduced in the management of neurological and psychiatric conditions. Students will benefit from a series of problem-based learning and case studies to develop skills of medical problem solving, communication, and teamwork in the module.
