COUN 502 Systemic Theory: Multicultural Counseling

This graduate-level course serves as an introduction to the theory, ethics and practice of multicultural counseling. Students will examine the sociopolitical nature of counseling, the impact of counselor and systemic bias, the multiple dimensions of identity, and the goals of multicultural counseling competence. Students will develop competencies through exploration of his or her personal values and belief systems, factors of power and oppression, racial/cultural/gender/sexual orientation identity formation, and ethical practice. Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class face-to-face learning, with some asynchronous online activities.Course Entry Requirement: MAC Program
