Respiratory Care

Allied Health

A.A.S. Degree (G,W)

Respiratory Care is an allied health specialty involved in the treatment, management, and diagnostic evaluation of patients with problems of the cardiopulmonary system. Respiratory Care is one of the most dynamic allied health fields, undergoing a continuous process of discovery and improvement in both therapeutic techniques and related modes of mechanical assistance. The Wilmington and Owens Campus programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), 264 Precision Blvd., Telford, TN 37690, (817) 283-2835, and prepare students for the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Entry Level and Advanced Practice Examinations. Courses are offered on campus and at a variety of clinical affiliates. Academically ready students can apply to the program following the guidelines of the Allied Health competitive admission process. Program Graduate Competencies

The Program Graduate Competencies listed below identify the major learning goals related to your specific program of study and identify the knowledge and skills you will have when you graduate to be successful in your chosen field.

  1. Apply theoretical information that leads to an appropriate action in the application or delivery of respiratory care procedures.
  2. Perform technical skills in the implementation of respiratory care procedures within a plan of care.
  3. Practice behaviors that are consistent with professional and employer expectations/requirements of their employees.

Core Curriculum Competencies

The Core Curriculum Competencies listed below identify what you will be able to do as a graduate, regardless of your program of study. You will acquire these core competencies through general education courses and program-specific coursework. You will be expected to use relevant technology to achieve these outcomes:

PROGRAM SPECIFIC ADVISEMENT STATEMENT

Delaware Tech does not apply blanket age limits to courses for the purposes of transfer in, meeting selective admission programs' ranking/entrance procedures, or meeting program requirements for award completion. There is a five year age limit used in the selective admission procedures for the Respiratory Care program for BIO 120, CHM 110, and MAT 162.

The number of courses and credits required for graduation may be more depending on your need for developmental education courses and the elective choices you make (if electives are a part of the program). Some programs also have college-level courses that you must take if you do not score at a certain level on the College Placement Test. If this applies to your program, the courses are listed at the top of the sequence sheet before the first semester of the course list.
