Specialization in Education in Mathematics (EdD)
The specialization in Education in Mathematics is aimed at meeting the professional growth needs at the doctoral level of Math teachers and other educators and professionals interested in Math education. By seeking the best practices for teaching mathematics, this specialization recognizes the changing and dynamic nature of mathematical theory, its applications in Science and in daily life and technology. In addition, it will train leaders in Mathematics Education that contribute to advancing the mission of the different academic programs, in public and private settings, inside and outside of Puerto Rico.

The Doctorate in Education in Education in Mathematics is designed to develop the competencies that allow the student:
Knowledge
- Know and understand the theoretical foundations of mathematics taught at the K-14 levels, which includes algebra, geometry, mathematical logic, calculus and statistics.
- Know and understand the main applications of mathematics in science, industry and economics, in a theoretical and practical way through the use of technology.
- Know and understand the theories, concepts and pedagogical principles of the main mathematical disciplines, such as algebra, geometry, analysis, logic and statistics.
- Know and understand the methodology of pedagogical research in the areas of mathematics.
- Know and understand the methodology for the planning of mathematics courses and the assessment in the classroom.
Skills
- Design and solve mathematical problems for the classroom.
- Evaluate electronic resources to support math research and teaching.
- Use cutting-edge technology as an educational resource in math courses and programs.
- Design and apply effective strategies for recruiting and retaining students in math courses and programs.
- Apply the theories, principles, techniques and practices for teaching mathematics at the levels of K-14.
