Purpose Statement

The purpose of the Adult Learner programs is to provide working adult students with undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In addition, we offer non-credit and certificate programs which recognize the educational and professional needs of the adult learner while promoting lifelong learning. These degree and certificate programs are designed for students who, because of family and work responsibilities, seek a program with multiple delivery options and a student population of fellow professionals. Within an adult student framework and a focus on student service, we strive to attract a diverse student body.

Educational programs that reflect current societal issues and Barry University’s reputation are made available on the Miami Shores campus, as well as locations throughout the state of Florida and can be accessed fully online. In support of Judeo Christian and Dominican traditions, we recognize the breadth of experience of working professionals and provides a number of flexible learning opportunities through its courses, programs, and experiential learning options.

Recognizing that adult students often have attained knowledge outside of the classroom that is appropriate for academic credit. Accordingly the Adult Learner programs grants experiential learning credit toward an undergraduate degree through a portfolio, CLEP, DANTES, test-out exams, and license options. All prior learning credit methods are listed and explained in the Assessment of Prior Learning Fact Book located on the web-site or from your program advisors. In keeping with the Mission Statement of Barry University, the Adult Learner Programs emphasize inclusive community, social justice, and collaborative service.  Students are encouraged to further the mission through community service and leadership roles throughout the state, the nation, and the world.
