EDU 5651 Thesis and Capstone Project for Special Education and Inclusive Classrooms in Childhood Education

(formerly EDU 549B; Teacher as Researcher for Special Education and Inclusive Classrooms in Childhood Education)

The aim of this class is to encourage students to conceptualize and conduct research that will contribute to understanding of scholarship in the field of education. Through this class, students will acquire a set of tools that will help them learn to design and implement a research project. Additionally, students in this course will achieve the following objectives: identifying and defining a problem and formulating a research question; utilizing adequate sources and pertinent specialist literature to conceptualize the problem; understanding the role of literature review in research; developing an effective method to solve the problem; summarizing results and conclusion in a concise and organized manner. The use of technology for a variety of purposes will be essential in the development, implementation and presentation of the research. Course credit is contingent upon the individual development, completion and presentation of the final research paper. Both whole class instruction and individual consultation with the instructor will be scheduled.
