DSIM 371 E-Business Management

Cross-listed with MKG 371. Three hours per week.Prerequisites: DSIM 203RI. This course preparesthe next generation of business managers forsuccess in electronic business. It explores thetools, skills, business and social implications ofemerging electronic business. In addition toacquiring basic skills for identifying electronicbusiness opportunities and creating a presence inthe online marketplace, the student reexaminesfundamental processes of business as they areperformed in cyberspace in contrast to themarketplace. Topics include an introduction to theeconomics of information and information products,the roles of e-supply chains, corporate portalsand public business-to-business exchanges; e-support services, auctions and e-commerce securityissues and processes; the impact ofe-commerce onorganizational strategy and industry structure; indepth assessment of successful e-commercestrategies; and innovative e-commerce systems.Students have to complete an organizational casestudy of e-business technology implementation andcreate a business plan for a technology venture.Credit cannot be awarded for both DSIM 371 and MKG371.
