FINA 4350 Introduction to Risk Management

This course will examine the way business and society make an assessment of control and transfer of risk. It is designed for the student with no previous knowledge of risk management. The goal of the course is to engage the active discovery of risk management principles. Students will be prepared to function in a business environment developing an awareness of the challenges, tools, and the process of designing and implementing of a risk management program. This course focuses on the ways business and society access, control, and transfer risk. This process known as the risk management process, is becoming an increasingly important tool in the management of business and personal financial health. An effective and efficient corporate risk management program leads to the knowledge and control of cost for an improved bottom line. The risk management process involves identification of risks and associated potential costs, analysis of causes of financial loss, determination of strategies to reduce risk, selection of strategies appropriate the goals and objectives of the business, implementation of selected strategies, management, and monitoring results. This course will cover risk management tools, analysis, and strategies for banking, corporations, and insurance.

Prerequisite

FINA 3380 and [QUMT 3341 or QUMT 3343]. All students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, or Bachelor of Science in Materials Management and Logistics from VCoBE, must apply for and be admitted to VCoBE before they are allowed to enroll in the Advanced Business Core and Major coursework for their degree.
