RNSG 1028 Nursing Concepts I
This course introduces the nursing student to nursing concepts and skills related to the care of multicultural individuals with simple acute health problems. Students will reinforce nursing theory and skills taught in the foundational course focusing on the care of individuals with simple acute health problems. Students will reinforce nursing theory and skills taught in the foundational course focusing on the care of individuals and families with common physiological, psychological, and psychosocial alterations in health. The course further prepares the nursing student to provide safe, compassionate, effective, evidence-based nursing care for adult clients in a variety of health care and simulated settings. Concepts of medical and surgical nursing will be applied through the nursing process to the care of the adult client experiencing simple acute to more complex chronic health problems incorporating essential nursing science, biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural principles. Pharmacological concepts are strengthened throughout the course.
This course is required for students enrolled in the LPN/Paramedic Bridge to RN Option (ASN), LB13, and the Traditional RN Option (ASN), NG73.

Prerequisites: RNSG 1025 - Electronic Medical Records Documentation; RNSG 1027 - Nursing Pharmacology; and either RNSG 1024 - Transition to Professional Nursing for students in the LPN/Paramedic Bridge to RN Option (ASN), LB13, or RNSG 1026 - Fundamentals for students in the Traditional RN Option (ASN), NG73.
Corequisite: None.
In the NG73 Traditional RN Option (ASN) and the LB13 LPN/Paramedic Bridge to RN Option (ASN), practicum, internship, and clinical courses are based on a clock hour (60 minutes). Appropriate breaks are included in the clock hour as directed at the practicum, internship, or clinical site. One semester credit shall be awarded for a minimum of three clock hours of practicum, internship, or clinical instruction. One semester credit shall be awarded for 2250 minutes of instructional time, equivalent to 37.5 clock hours under the clock-hour conversion.
Prerequisite
Program Admission; RNSG 1025 - Electronic Medical Records Documentation; RNSG 1027 - Nursing Pharmacology; and either RNSG 1024 - Transition to Professional Nursing or RNSG 1026 - Fundamentals. All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
