HIS 4160 AMERICANS MEET THE WORLD, 1890-2001

In this class, we will study the (long) 'American Century' as the U.S. transformed from a country focused on internal development to one that intervened in every inhabited continent. Covered topics include the birth of an American 'Empire', American involvement in both world wars, American globalizing commercial and financial activities, and post-1945 American involvement in African, Asian, European, Latin American, and Middle Eastern affairs.
