ENG 2392 From Book to Film: Lord of the Rings

J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy—first published in the 1950s—spawned the modern Fantasy genre, from D&D to Harry Potter. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film franchise—first released in the early 2000s—paved the way for Hollywood tent-pole franchises, from Harry Potter to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This semester-long one-credit course will compare these two seminal iterations of Middle-earth with an eye toward their aesthetic, narrative, and cultural differences: an epic journey from book-to-film!
