CRJ 5190 Police Policy
Studying the flagship Police departments is critical to understanding policing and democratic society. This course will closely examine the policies through the lens of experts and social scientists who have been studying them for years. The course will first explore the history of policing with a focus on policy (e.g., Christopher, Knapp and Mollen Commissions as well as the introduction of the innovative performance management system and broken windows). Once this foundation is established the course will cover critical policies such as stop and frisk, marijuana enforcement, policing protest, playing with crime numbers and other issues.
