CRJ 5180 Modern Correctional Systems
In American society, reliance on formal social control mechanisms to restrict unwanted behaviors is exceptional. The United States has one of the most populous criminal justice systems in the world. Students will be exposed to theoretical reasons as to why this is so. Additionally, there are many strategies employed by correctional agencies to change behaviors. This course will develop an in-depth understanding of these strategies. It will include study of both traditional and non-traditional methods. Emphasis will be placed on evaluating and critiquing these strategies using scientific studies.
