For new MS students holding a BS in Music Therapy from outside Molloy:

Students who have completed a concentration of advanced music therapy undergraduate coursework at another institution may be placed in this program and granted equivalency for some or all of the Equivalency Courses listed. This will be determined by the Director of Music Therapy upon admission into the graduate program.

Graduates of the program will:

  • Practice music therapy at an advanced level promoting healing through music experiences and therapeutic relationship in accordance with AMTA advanced competencies.
  • Understand clinical needs from various theoretical perspectives, clinical models, and through work in a disciplinary team.
  • Have successful experiences providing music therapy services with a wide range of clients across a variety of clinical and educational settings.
  • Utilize and apply advanced music psychotherapy skills in clinical practice.
  • Integrate and practice ongoing professional and personal development.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of practice in music therapy.
  • Understand and conduct ethical research with the goal of producing scholarly writing and presentations in music therapy.
  • Demonstrate high level of musicianship and ability to improvise in a variety of styles. Play comprehensive repertoire in a variety of styles, showing proficiency on voice, guitar, and piano.
