SOC 320 Green Criminology

Green criminology has emerged in recent years from issues relating to environmental and social harm. The study of environmental harm and 'crimes against nature' has become an increasingly popular area of research amongst criminologists. Some of the topics addressed in this class include: climate change and social conflict; threats to biodiversity; pollution and toxic waste; environmental victims, environmental regulation, law enforcement and courts; environmental forensic studies; environmental crime prevention. The goal of this course is to inspire students to research and critique environmental crimes and harms. This course will provide a platform to develop innovative approaches to negotiating this landscape in ways that lead to solutions.
