ELE 412 CM 7 - ESOL II & Literacy II

This course is designed to prepare Elementary Education Preservice teachers to become effective teachers, behavior and classroom managers, reflective practitioners and leaders, especially in the areas of ESOL and Reading. Reading and ESOL content focus on Second Language Acquisition theory, the components of language, and reading research. Preservice teachers will study the role of assessment in reading instruction and the foundations of differentiated instruction for struggling readers and English Language Learners(ELLs). This course provides the knowledge base necessary for effective reading instruction. Such effective teaching is based on knowledge of how reading is acquired by diverse K-12 students and how to differentiate instruction to meet all learning needs effectively. To this end, pre-service teachers will learn about current research findings on learning to read, learning how to teach diverse K-12 students reading, and current research on how children learn to read.
