NS 201 Naval Ships Systems I (combat Systems)

The course outlines the theory and employment ofweapons systems. Students explore the processesof detection, evaluation, threat analysis, weaponselection, delivery, guidance, and explosives.Fire control systems and major weapons types arediscussed, including capabilities andlimitations. The physical aspects of radar andunderwater sound are described. Facets ofcommand, control, communications, computers, andintelligence are explored as a means of weaponssystem integration. The tactical and strategicsignificance of command and control warfare andinformation warfare is discussed. This course issupplemented with review/ analysis of casestudies involving the moral and ethicalresponsibilities of leaders in the employment ofweapons.
