FIN 620 Financing New Ventures

Basic concepts of finance will be applied to theentrepreneurial venture, beginning with companystart-up and concluding with the ?harvest.?Entrepreneurial decisions and alternatives areanalyzed in terms of their effect of firmvalue. The central focus of the course is to gainan understanding of the financing ofentrepreneurial ventures, including ways investorsidentify and commit the necessary resources tocreate and finance ventures. Lectures, in-depthdiscussions, and cases are used to addressspecific concepts and skills relevant todeveloping and financing a new venture. Theseconcepts will include: evaluating the opportunity,financing the venture, valuing the emergingcompany, and harvesting the ventures by selling itor going public. An integral part of the coursepedagogy is participation in the Spring BoardVenture Capital Fund.
