Program Description

The Forest Technology program prepares students to produce, protect, and manage timber; maintain and operate related equipment; and select, grade, harvest, and market forest raw materials for converting into a variety of consumer goods.

Graduates who earn credentials in this program work in the outdoors conducting forest inventory, forest health surveys, timber sale administration, reforestation, wildlife surveys, map and compass navigation, and forest fire fighting.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Manage forests for a particular species of wildlife.
  2. Select, grade, harvest, and market forest products.
  3. Plan a timber harvest, explaining flow, equipment, and appropriate steps to follow.
  4. Display knowledge of industry opportunities, forestry products, and the history of forestry.
  5. Successfully complete the Louisiana Prescribed Burner Certification Program.
