COM-349 SOCIAL MEDIA AND IDENTITY

This course focuses on how physical and digital environments interact to shape our social identities. Students use communication theories to examine ethical, cultural, and social issues in the study of social media. Topics include the growing role of virtual environments and simulations in contemporary life, the nature of interpersonal relationships in digital environments, contemporary threats to privacy, and how social media impact our experience and performance of race, ethnicity, and gender. Prerequisites: COM 201
