LAW-2982 Practicing Positive Leadership in Challenging Times
Practicing positive leadership in challenging times involves understanding the strengths and preferences that we bring to a leadership role, those aspects we admire in others that we want to develop or inspire us, and what specific virtues – like honesty, courage, or compassion - or a combination of them - may be most appropriate to draw upon when providing leadership for specific people or situations. This course will examine these dimensions of practicing positive leadership by asking students to understand who they are, who they aspire to become, and how they can act in exceptional ways that may lead others to do the same, from events that can be planned for to emergencies without time for planning. The course will be graded honors/pass/fail based upon course participation; successful completion of assignments, including journals, assessments, exercises, simulations and presentations; and a short final reflective paper about what has been learned, citing prior work in the course.
