Nursing Student Grading Policy
Students must achieve an 80% (B-) in all nursing courses (courses with the prefix NSG, including Nursing Electives that begin with the prefix NSG) as well as core science courses (Microbiology and Biochemistry), and a 73% C in all non-nursing courses. Grades are carried out to two decimal points and are not rounded up. Achieving a grade below 80%, including a grade of 79.99% in nursing courses, will result in a course failure. Anatomy and Physiology, I & II courses older than 5 years from the date of the application to the nursing program will not transfer into the nursing program. Any exceptions to this rule must be made by the Program Director. A& P I and II must also have a B- or higher for progression.
A failed course may be repeated once. (See progression policy). Students achieving less than 80% (B-) in core sciences courses and less than 73% (C ) in non-nursing courses will have to repeat those courses in order for them to be applied toward the nursing degree. Students may request a grade review once and are to follow the grade appeal policy outlined in the nursing student handbook.
- Students in courses that have theory and laboratory/clinical components must achieve at least an 80% average in each of these course components. Failing one component of the course (either theory or lab/clinical) will result in failure of the entire course. If the clinical or lab is failed, the lecture component grade will be no higher than a C+. If the lecture is failed (with a grade of C+ or lower), the clinical grade will be F (as clinical is P/F).
- A failed course may be repeated once.
- A student who fails two clinical courses will be dismissed and will not be eligible for readmission (NSG 240, 315, 320, 325, 350, 420, 430)
- Failure of a clinical course may include:

- Fails to attain “Satisfactory” competence in a major clinical objective OR
- Fails to achieve an 80% on the care plan or concept map after the second attempt. OR
