Metrics of Satisfactory Academic Progress

In order for an undergraduate student to graduate, the minimum undergraduate requirements are a CGPA of 2.0, 67% Rate of Progress (ROP), and completion of the program without attempting more than 150% (maximum timeframe - MTF) of the credits required for program completion.

In order for a graduate student to graduate, the minimum graduate requirements are a CGPA of 3.0, 67% Rate of Progress (ROP), and completion of the program without attempting more than 150% (maximum timeframe - MTF) of the credits required for program completion.

Failure to complete courses successfully for any reason may negatively affect a student’s Satisfactory Academic Progress and are considered to be punitive grades. Failing courses, being suspended or terminated from courses, or withdrawing from courses could result in the loss of financial aid and/or Veterans Education Benefits and academic dismissal.

Calculations - Term GPA and Cumulative GPA (CGPA):

Term Grade Point Average is calculated by using the term letter grade, four-point scale and credit- hour values.

Example - 1 A grade and 1 B grade:
A= 4 grade points x 4.5 credit hours = 18 grade points earned
B= 3 grade points x 4.5 credit hours = 13.5 grade points earned

To complete the GPA, divide the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours earned.

Example
18 + 13.5 / 9 total credit hours earned = 3.5 GPA

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated the same as term GPA by dividing the student’s total grade points earned from all terms by the student’s total credits hours earned.

Rate of progress (ROP) and Maximum Timeframe (MTF) is determined as follows:

Earned Credits at the University + Transfer Credits accepted Attempted Credits at the University + Transfer Credits accepted

150% MTF: Only the attempted courses required in the students’ current program is used in determining the number of MTF credits remaining.
Total Credits needed to graduate for the program x 1.5 = Total number of credits allowed to be attempted

  • Applied Associate Degree is 90 credits x 1.5 = 135 total allowed credits to be attempted
  • Bachelor of Art/Bachelor of Science is 180 credits x 1.5 = 270 total allowed credits to be attempted
  • Master’s Degree is 54 credits x 1.5 = 81 total allowed credits to be attempted

Change of Program Rate of Progress Calculation:

(Earned Credits in the New Program + (plus) Transfer Credits Accepted) - (minus) (Change of Major credits not transferred to the New Program)

÷ (Divided by)

(Attempted Credits in the New Program + (plus) Transfer Credits Accepted) - (minus) (Change of Major credits not transferred to the New Program)

Unless otherwise noted, Academic/Financial Aid Dismissals may be appealed. Please see the Appeal Procedure for additional information.

If the review of a student’s Satisfactory Academic Progress is performed at any time indicating that it is mathematically impossible to meet the minimum requirements of the Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress policy at the next mandatory check point, the student will be placed on Academic/Financial Aid Dismissal from the University.

While the terms Academic/Financial Aid Warning, Academic/Financial Aid Dismissal and Academic/Financial Aid Probation are used, the status applies to all students whether receiving aid or not.
