MUS 5280 Music and Imagery: Therapeutic Applications

(formerly Introduction to Guided Imagery and Music)

Students will explore a variety of foundational applications of imagery within music therapy practice. Focus will be given to psychodynamic underpinnings of music and imagery, including considerations for receptive music techniques. Students will develop skills in conscious listening, guided script selection/writing, and music selection. Students will also gain a basic understanding of altered states of consciousness and symbols/archetypes. Opportunities for cultural humility and reflexivity will be afforded to students as they explore the implication of cultural factors on the use of music and imagery for healing, growth, and wellness.
