DST 214 Narrative Inquiry in Latine Deaf Communities: Stories, Testimonies, and Identities
This course explores qualitative research with a focus on narrative inquiry in DeafLat communities. Students examine stories, oral histories, and testimonios as Deaf-Latine ways of knowing, with attention to intersected identities of race, ethnicity, deaf, bi/multilingualism (ASL, LSM, LSPR, English, Spanish, Spanglish), and transnational experiences. Students gain hands-on skills in interviewing, transcribing, translating, and analyzing narratives, while reflecting on positionality, ethics, and cultural responsibility.
