  2. Use paper and electronic resources to obtain the meaning of unknown words in the readings in order to comprehend the author's key message. (CCC 2; PGC 4,6)

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Respond to specific/general questions based on beginning-level readings.
    1. Identify organizational features in readings.
    2. Identify topics and main ideas in short readings.
    3. Identify key ideas in readings.
    4. Explain sequence of events.
    5. Respond to simple yes/no and information questions.
  2. Use paper or electronic resources to obtain the meaning of unknown words in the readings in order to comprehend the author's key message.
    1. Use a bilingual and/or English-English dictionary, an electronic translator, or online dictionaries to find word meanings.
    2. Choose meanings that fit the context.
  3. Recognize and use vocabulary to support and demonstrate reading comprehension.
    1. Build a word bank of new vocabulary from readings.
    2. Use strategies to derive meaning of words and expressions.

Evaluation Criteria/Policies

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90-100 = A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
0-69 = F
