Program Description
The objective of the Pharmacy Technician Program is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify for entry-level positions in pharmacies as Pharmacy Technicians.
The Pharmacy Technician program prepares graduates to take the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). The Pharmacy Technician program at Central Louisiana Technical Community College is approved and monitored by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
Regular admissions shall:
- meet the recommended scores for CLTCC Pharmacy Technician program in reading, language, and mathematics on an approved entrance examination;
- provide certification of high school graduation or satisfactory completion of the State Department of Education equivalency examination;
- provide health certification from a licensed physician;
- be fingerprinted and complete a college required Office of State Police Right to Review Criminal Background Check;
- meet all admission and application requirements set by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and CLTCC.

Each nursing and allied health student is required to obtain and continue personal health insurance, at his or her own expense throughout the term of his or her participation in the program. In the event of an accident or injury, the student is responsible for any medical expenses including ambulance service fees.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of federal and state laws, as well as ethical issues, relative to pharmacy technicians in the community pharmacy.
- Apply formulas, calculations of fractional dosages, and methods of calculating dosages from all drug forms.
- Exhibit an understanding of pharmacy operations in a retail and/or hospital pharmacy environment under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Perform aseptic procedures to demonstrate a mastery understanding of techniques used to avoid introducing pathogens into sterile products, to ensure patient safety, and to maintain product consistency.
