Education Specialist with a specialization in K-12 Educational Leadership

The Education Specialist (EdS) program at Aspen University is an innovative, specialized program that offers a focused curriculum, which connects theoretical underpinnings to the application of new knowledge in real-world settings. This program aims to benefit professionals from a variety of disciplines and seeks to build skills in a range of areas related to culturally responsive leadership that results in highly effective outcomes. Through Aspen University’s online model of both independent work blended with collaboration, students investigate concepts and practice building their skills in leadership, administration, and transformative change. This EdS degree will allow learners to develop the expertise to effectively lead an organization, understand the dynamics impacting the creation of an enduring and effective strategic plan, and lead positive organizational change around current policy and critical issues.

Please note that the Education Specialist (EdS) in Leadership and Learning program is not designed as a teacher or administrator certification program, and different states and municipalities often have specific requirements concerning appropriate degree programs. Prospective students should check local and state regulatory requirements for additional information regarding program acceptance.

Degree Requirements: 33 credits

Applications for this program will be accepted starting Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

Program Learning Goals

It is intended that Graduates of the Aspen University Education Specialist with a specialization in K-12 Educational Leadership program will learn or be able to do the following:

  1. Collaborative and Ethical Leadership: Apply collaborative problem-solving techniques that move teams towards goal achievement. Graduates will adhere to the ethical standards of their field and will model this framework for colleagues. 
  2. Transformational Leadership: Implement theoretical and practical models of leadership that motivate and transform individuals to achieve together and to participate in personal, professional growth. 
  3. Reflective Scholarship: Reflect on their own effectiveness as a team member and a leader by comparing their performance to the achievement of established goals by using evidence-based decision-making. 
  4. K12 Educational Leadership: Apply advanced level skill for leadership roles in school systems through practical, real-world applications with adeptness for leading educators to create continuous and permanent change that impacts student learning and classroom practices.
