Diesel Equipment Technology
When the trucks and equipment that keep freight, construction, utilities, agriculture, and industry moving need service, trained diesel technicians are essential. Graduates of the Diesel Equipment Technology program are prepared to inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair medium/heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment. Employment opportunities include diesel service technician, truck technician, heavy equipment technician, fleet technician, preventive maintenance technician, and related service positions.
The program emphasizes hands-on training in diesel engines, electrical and electronic systems, preventive maintenance, truck brakes, steering and suspension, drivetrains, heating and air conditioning systems, heavy equipment hydraulics, and off-road drivelines. The 2024 national median pay for diesel service technicians and mechanics was $60,640 per year, or $29.15 per hour.
