AUMF 1490 Robotic Systems and Applications
This course provides instruction in the programming, operation, and integration of industrial robots for manufacturing applications. Emphasis is placed on developing the technical skills required to safely operate, program, and troubleshoot robotic systems in automated production environments.
Students will learn robot cell fundamentals, including system components, safety practices, and applicable industry standards such as OSHA and ANSI/RIA. Instruction includes manual robot operation, jogging methods, coordinate systems, and motion control. Students will develop proficiency in teach pendant (TP) programming, including program creation, editing, movement instructions, and execution control.
The course covers robot positioning and accuracy through world, tool, and user frames to ensure precise and repeatable operation. Advanced programming concepts include the use of registers and position registers to support flexible automation through offset and parametric programming.
Additional topics include integration of digital and analog inputs/outputs (I/O) for system communication, as well as selection and application of end effectors. Students will also utilize software to simulate, test, and validate robotic workcells.
Hands-on laboratory activities using industry-standard equipment allow students to apply theoretical knowledge, develop safe work practices, and build competency in robotic system setup, programming, and optimization.
