Attendance Guidelines
College Policy on Attendance
Students are expected to attend each scheduled class. Absences and tardies will become a part of the student’s record through the work ethics grade as outlined in the Work Ethics section of the Catalog. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange with the instructor to discuss circumstances preventing attending class before the absence, if possible. If a student must be absent, it is his/her responsibility to notify the instructor and discuss make-up work, if permissible. Any make-up work will be at the discretion of the instructor.
Students receiving financial aid should be aware that absences could jeopardize their financial aid funding and satisfactory academic progress. Students may not receive financial aid funds if they do not meet the attendance requirements of the financial aid agency. Students who stop attending class, but do not formally withdraw, may receive a grade of F and face financial aid repercussions in upcoming semesters.
Attendance is required to be taken during the census period and reported to the Registrar's Office through Banner Web as FA (attended) or NS (no show) by each instructor. Failure to do so will result in being dropped from the course.
Veterinary Technology Program Specific Statements
This is a rigorous and complex program that requires students to attend all scheduled lecture and lab sessions. To meet the essential skill requirements in this program, it is important to come to class and remain engaged in learning the entire time.
Classroom attendance and active participation by each student is expected for optimal learning to occur. It is expected that students remain alert, awake, and focused on course-related/specific material during class. Students are expected to arrive on time and remain for the entire class. Students arriving late and/or leaving are a major distraction to other students and the faculty. Faculty reserves the right to prohibit students from entering the classroom late. Students missing lecture or laboratory assignments will receive a grade of “zero,” with no opportunity to make up missed coursework.
Please note that Veterinary Technology laboratory experiences and skills-based training sessions may occur outside of regularly scheduled class meeting times due to travel requirements and/or the availability of animals and clinical sites (e.g., laboratory animal facilities, large animal facilities, and exotic animal facilities). In such cases, instructors will provide students with timely notification of any scheduled travel or off-campus laboratory activities to support effective planning and scheduling. Attendance at these sessions is required due to limited animal resources and the necessity of ensuring that students obtain essential clinical skills and competencies.
