SOC 3360 DIVERSITY EQUITY INCLUSION IN SPORT

The course will begin by developing an historical perspective of diversity, not just in sport but in general, followed by an in-depth investigation of inclusion.  If inclusion is the key to true diversity, then what is inclusion, and does inclusion result in equity?  The course will then turn its focus to evaluating the many topics surrounding Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).  Intersectionality is an analytical framework for understanding how aspects of a person's social and political identities combine to create different modes of discrimination and privilege.  Examples of these aspects are gender, age, caste, sex, race, class, sexuality, religion, disability, physical appearance, and height.  The course will examine each of these in the context of both business and sport.
