Doctor of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D) - MSMC and Lake Erie School of Dental Medicine
LECOM has developed special Early Acceptance Programs with select community colleges, undergraduate colleges and universities that grant qualified students a provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine or College of Osteopathic Medicine. This is a 4+4 program; students complete 120 credits at Mount Saint Mary College, and earn the Bachelors degree, before matriculating to Lake Erie School of Dental Medicine.
Application to the EAP is separate from the application to the undergraduate school. A student may apply for EAP consideration as a high school senior or as an undergraduate student. Undergraduate students must apply prior to earning 65 undergraduate credits. Students apply to enroll in the EAP by following the link “Affiliated Undergraduate College Inquiry” found on the myLECOM Portal.
LECOM will review the application. If the student meets the requirements, LECOM will offer the student a list of EAP interview dates to self-schedule an interview. Following a successful interview, LECOM will notify the student that they qualify for a provisional letter of acceptance from LECOM and they will be enrolled for participation in the EAP upon approval by the affiliated institution of their choice and submission of their school email address to LECOM. The student and the affiliated school will then be sent the provisional letter of acceptance.
Additional requirements, including a final application to LECOM, must be met for final acceptance to LECOM, but another interview is not required. The specific criteria for acceptance into the Doctor of Medical Dentistry program are listed below:
High School Applicants
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident;
- Must not hold a bachelor’s degree or higher;
- SAT Score (Math and Verbal Reasoning) greater than or equal to 1240 or higher on a single or an ACT Composite score greater than or equal to 26 on a single exam; and
- A high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
Undergraduate Applicants
- Must not have accumulated more than 65 Post-Secondary credit hours
- Must have met the SAT/ACT requirements shown above for High School Students
- Must have at least two years remaining as a full time student at the undergraduate institution;
- Students already attending the affiliate institution must have a post-secondary cumulative overall GPA of 3.4 or higher and a science GPA of 3.3 or higher.
DAT – Per the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) policy, the DAT may only be taken once every 90 days. The DAT should be taken prior to the starting the final undergraduate year to permit time to retake the exam, if necessary. The exam may not be taken more than three times. LECOM will not petition the DAT to permit the re-take of the exam sooner than the 90-day waiting period.
All the following criteria from a single exam must be met by September 1 of the year prior to LECOM matriculation:

*The applicant may request a review by the Dean, if a 16 is attained in Biology, Chemistry or Organic Chemistry and all other scores meet the minimum criteria.
The acceptable DAT score must come from a single exam. LECOM does not super score multiple DAT attempts.

Dental Program:
This program is only available in Bradenton, FL. The student must have a provisional letter of acceptance in the EAP before starting their third year at the undergraduate institution. Upon submitting an AADSAS application, completing four years of undergraduate study, taking the DAT and successfully meeting certain GPA and other requirements, the student enters LECOM’s School of Dental Medicine the following July. LECOM graduates receive a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree.
