SCI 1950 VIRAL DISCOVERY I
Viral Discovery is a Howard Hughes and National Science Foundation-sponsored course that provides students with opportunities to participate in hands-on authentic research experience which introduces students to several scientific concepts and the process involved in scientific discovery. Using current state of the art technologies, students in this course will isolate, identify and characterize novel bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria) from local soil samples and ultimately name their own novel virus. As part of this scientific journey, students will learn and apply the process of science, as well as learn about the impact of virsues on humans. No prior science experience is required for this course. This course satisfies the Laboratory Science requirement for the core curriculum.
