NMT 3020 Radio-Pharmaceutical Chemistry
This course begins with a study of the basic concepts of inorganic, organic and biochemistry. Specific topics include atomic structure, chemical bonding and reactions, as well as use of periodic tables. This introduction leads into a comprehensive study of radiopharmaceutical methodologies, mathematical equations, basic properties of radioisotopes, production of radionuclides and an in-depth discussion of generator systems and tracer principles Additional topics for discussion will include characterization and classification of diagnostic and therapeutic radioisotopes, biodistribution of medical tracers as well as the use of pharmaceutical adjuncts, radiopharmaceutical preparation, quality assurance, storage and record keeping.
