The Graduate Program Director can waive 6-12 graduate credits if the student has successfully completed some undergraduate music therapy coursework (but has not earned a degree in music therapy). A minimum of 48 credits must be completed on the graduate-level as per NYS licensure requirements.

Graduates of the program will:

Practice music therapy at an advanced level promoting healing through music experiences and therapeutic relationship in accordance with AMTA advanced competencies.

Understand clinical needs from various theoretical perspectives, clinical models, and through work in a disciplinary team.

Have successful experiences providing music therapy services with a wide range of clients across a variety of clinical and educational settings.

Utilize and apply advanced music psychotherapy skills in clinical practice.

Integrate and practice ongoing professional and personal development.

Adhere to ethical standards of practice in music therapy.

Understand and conduct ethical research with the goal of producing scholarly writing and presentations in music therapy.

Demonstrate high level of musicianship and ability to improvise in a variety of styles. Play comprehensive repertoire in a variety of styles, showing proficiency on voice, guitar, and piano.
